A newly married man has explained to his wife that he doesn’t believe in sex after marriage for religious reasons. Steve Johnson, aged 31 from Shrewsbury, told The Spark that he was on his honeymoon in Southern Spain when his wife started making ‘obscene suggestions’ about how they should pass the evenings.

Mr Johnson reported that he was ‘absolutely disgusted’ by what she appeared to be suggesting and had to explain that he couldn’t comply ‘for religious reasons’. He noted that he had long been a firm opponent of ‘sexual relations between a married couple’ which ‘can never be permissible in the eyes of God’.

Mr Johnson added that he and his partner had recently been ‘married in the presence of the Lord’ meaning ‘he’s likely to be keeping a particularly close eye on us’. He noted that in these circumstances the ‘absolute last thing he’ll want to see’ is ‘the crazy shit we used to get up to’. When his wife stated that she was ‘hoping to have children one day’ Mr Johnson replied that she should have ‘bloody well thought of that before we got married’.

Figures within the Church of England have welcomed Mr Johnson’s stance, and praised his piety. His local vicar, Father Andrews, told us that in ‘an age of sin and immorality’ its ‘refreshing’ to see a young man who refuses to ‘break the sanctity of marriage by engaging in sexual activity’.
